Our
Journey

Our journey began in the 1930s when Frank J. Rageis founded the company, originally named Frank J. Rageis & Son Scrap Metals. Frank was passionate about the scrap metal industry and committed to creating a business centered on responsible metal recycling while providing exceptional service to the community. His vision, driven by a deep understanding of the industry, laid the foundation for what we continue to uphold today.

In the early 1970s, Frank’s son, Albert J. Rageis, took the reins as the second-generation leader. Albert shared his father’s passion for the industry and played an instrumental role in growing the business. He built the company by knocking on doors, meeting people face-to-face, and establishing trusted relationships and friendships within the community. Through his personal approach and dedication, Albert expanded the company, ensuring it maintained its reputation for reliability, environmental responsibility, and unwavering customer commitment. Albert was not only a leader but also a father figure and mentor to many, including those within his team, and his influence is still felt throughout the company today.

The third generation of the Rageis family story took an unexpected but meaningful turn when Christopher Lear, a long-time, dedicated employee, was given the opportunity to take over the company at just 27 years old. Though not Albert’s biological son, Christopher was fortunate to have Albert as a father figure and the best mentor he could have asked for. Christopher, like the generations before him, developed a deep passion for the industry and the values that have defined the company for decades. He is deeply committed to upholding Albert’s legacy and ensuring that the values of trust, personal relationships, and dedication to quality continue to guide the company forward.

In honor of Albert’s immense influence, the company was rebranded in 2013 as Armco Scrap Metals, which stands for Al Rageis Metal Company. This name change is a tribute to Albert, who played an instrumental role in the company’s success and was a true mentor and guiding force in Christopher’s life.

As Armco continues to advance under Christopher’s leadership, the company also embraces a forward-thinking approach with the insight of the fourth generation. We are excited to continue innovating and adapting to the future of the industry while staying true to our family values and commitment to excellence.
